Having retired as joint MD of Siemens Ltd / CEO of Siemens Telecoms in South Africa, Geoff subsequently held a number of non-executive directorships with high-profile local TMT companies alongside his role within CVP. Geoff was Chairman of Clickatell, founder and chairman of Grand Battery Technologies, and a Director of Psitek and Elmer Communications.
In an accomplished career, Geoff has served as an ICT advisor to the South African Minister of Trade and Industry, was president of the Electronic Industries Federation of South Africa, a board member of UNISA’s School of Business Leadership as well as a member of the faculty advisory committees of the University of Stellenbosch and University of Pretoria Engineering faculties. Geoff was also the first Chairman of the Cape IT Initiative and its subsidiary Bandwidth Barn. Geoff brings a wealth of knowledge, strategic insight and an unsurpassed contact network to each of CVP’s engagements.

Cape Venture Partners (CVP) consists of 4 highly experienced partners who understand what it takes for an entrepreneur to achieve commercial success. As such, CVP has an advisory business that advises on strategy, operations, finance and sales & marketing issues, specifically for high growth entrepreneurs. In addition, M&A advice is a key part of the offering, including business valuations, share transactions, capital raising and exits. The CVP partners are also entrepreneurs and investors in their own right, and have started and launched a number of ventures. These include Texforce, which developed large scale alternative energy projects, and Radio 021, which won the bid for the new Cape radio station licence (now launched as Smile90.4 FM), CVP retains a shareholding. CVP has also been instrumental in assisting in technology transfer from Universities, as IP is commercialised, Azargen is an example of a successful spin out.
As a partner at Cape Venture Partners for the last 9 years, David has worked with and advised many entrepreneurs, mostly in the technology arena. Some of his recent engagements include HYSA Catalysis (Hydrogen South Africa, a JV between UCT Chemical Engineering, Mintek and DST, CCI (Competitive Capabilities International, owners of TRACC continuous improvement), MiningMX, an online mining publication, and Ensight, multi channel digital marketing software.
Past engagements include RACEC, a listed Rail infrastructure company, Denis (dental management, Wild Africa Cream, and a large number of early stage technology ventures, including Skyrove, Hot Platinum, Niocad, Cybercellar, Nclose, and Bizcommunity. Training roles included the VeloCITI, MyMentor and Bio-Entrepreneurs programmes.

CEO at Saicom Payphones, Vending and Data
Martin joined the CVP team after having spent 15 years in the USA. While in the States Martin cofounded and was CEO of Emerald Solutions, a 750 person IT services firm specializing in developing large scale internet applications for Fortune 500 companies such as Nike, Intel, AT&T and others. At Emerald, Martin had the experience of raising approximately $40 million in venture capital from major VC’s such as Technology Crossover Ventures.
Emerald was taken through the process of becoming a public company before the dot.com implosion and the company was subsequently sold to SBI. Prior to Emerald, Martin was a Vice President of Claremont Technology Group which was one of the first successful public offerings of a mid-sized IT services firm on the NASDAQ stock exchange. Martin has been involved in the rapid organic growth of Emerald and Claremont as well as the evaluation and acquisition of a number of high technology businesses.
